My toe in the water with Fantasy- a Brettonian/Empire army

The first Brettonian/Empire plastic dude....

I blew the dust of my blogspot... TA-DA!

Been a while, been busy with life and totally forgetting to update my blog.  so here we are.  There was a tournament in the spring that I wanted to go to, the Kalm Before the Waaaagh!  (a very awesome tournament BTW), but I wanted to go with a 100% painted force.  So I tallied up the d'orks that I had on hand painted and came up with a list around that.  Was it competitive?  no, not really, but I am more of a fun player versus a "IMMA KICK YOUR ASS WITH MAH AWESOMEZ LIST" sort of player. Give me a beer (or 12) and good convo, and BOOM instant fun time gaming.... But I digress, here's the stuff I worked on:

moar objective markers... MOAR!

Objective markers.

Good ol' Zogwort

He doesn't see much action, but he's a model that I had to paint up.  What basically has started off as a GW finecast wierdboy (which had the misfortune of a horrible casting, so there were bubbles, missing detail, etc.- but GW customer service was excellent and sent me a replacement wierdboy and let me keep the miscast).  So, with there not being an official model for Zogwort, I got to try my hand at some green stuff work and some minor tweaks to the original model.

**UPDATE**
I was able to complete Zogwort and get him ready to go.  Overall I'm pleased with the mini, obviously in hindsight there are things I would have done differently, but on a whole, I think it looks pretty good and I feel that it captures what he's all about.  enjoy.

it's been far too long to not post on here...

It is utterly amazing how much life can take away from my nerd hobby.  Between work and home projects, I've been covered up.  That isn't to say that I haven't been working on hobby projects, I've been working on quite a few:

the long awaited return of the KANS!

While the Kans have been done for some time, I've never gotten them in front of the camera for some shots.  Keeping with the ramshackle theme, the orks have cannibalized defeated foes for the armor plating.  As with the other ork vehicles, I was compelled to add some TEXAS flavor to them.  So, all of the DCCW's are face-chewing proud Texans!  Lots 'o pics incoming!  WAAAAAAGH!!!

who wants khorne flakes? KHORNE FLAKES!

I know who wants khorne flakes, it's Roger.  Roger is the first berserker that will be sporting the new and improved look.

Allow me to intorduce Ted. Ted is in love with chaos. Chaos loves Ted.

Well, he's finished, well, sans the dullcote to protect him.  He's the first of the new batch of kids who worship gods that don't like the Imperium of man.  Well, here he is, meet Ted.

the rebirth of cool, the rebirth of chaos.

I ventured a peek into my carrying case (say, have you seen my carrying case?  it's pretty sweet.) full of angry chaos and I got a little disappointed.  Why?  well, as my painting skills have gotten better, I felt dissatisfied with the current paint job on my first army.  So, I kept the very first CSM that I painted for the sake of posterity... and banished the rest of them to the depths of simple green.  Here's a shot of how they looked, and it's not to say that the paint job was bad, but there were glaring issues with my techniques;

You've met 'CHUNK', now meet 'GORR', his big brother.

Do you know what's more fun that one battle wagon?  A SECOND BATTLE WAGON! Meet Gorr.  I was so enamoured with the whole trophy bashing for my d'orks, that I got a second battle wagon to do more.  lots more.  so here he is  - BOOM!

Cpt. Pay-Per-View... or my KFF big mek!

Well, here's another installment to my growing ork green(ish) tide; my big mek with KFF!

15 September 2011

it's been a while....

because I'm RETARDED!  what in the hell was I thinking starting a squad of 28 to paint at one time?  welcome to burnout city!  I went through bouts of feeling impending doom and a total lack of motivation while staring at half-painted d'orks.  But with some patience and modest goals, I finished them.  So here's the latest addition to my WAAAAAGH!  enjoy.

It's an odd mix of d'orks - some sluggas, some shoota, some big shootas.  no real rhyme or reason for the 28, it was more or less a grab bag of primed minis.

Boyz! the ripple that will turn into the green tide

Here are boyz that are completed; a mixture of shoota and slugga boyz.  more to come.  many more.  ok, an obscene amount to come.

the Deff Dread 'Uncle Krumpy'

Here he is, he's been mostly completed now for quite some time - just had to finish up detail work on his DCCWs.  He's magnetized for transportability and overall an awesome model to paint.

checkerboards and you... a simple guide

With my facination of checkboards, I wanted to share my technique.  Here's the fairly quick way to get a decent checkerboard painted.  enjoy.

Lootas!

Well, finally finished (sans the dullcote)!  I really enjoyed these, even though they've been in various stages of paint for the last 4 months... and got side tracked with more interesting models, and a general loathing (or dread) of finishing them.  I did take the opportunity to work on my freehand work on these as well.  Enjoy!

Rust: my shamelessly copied tried and true method of weathering metal

I wouldn't dare claim this method as my own, but in all of my searches of the vast expanse of the Internets, I found this method (albeit, slightly tweaked for my application) of painting rust that yielded results far superior to the generic 'tinbitz then dry brush which ever metal top coat you want' method.  Gratned, the afore mentioned method is faster, but  I prefer this as a more organic representation of rusting out metal.

Biker Boy

I finished this guy a week or so ago, but hadn't gotten around to posting.  I'm overall pleased with the outcome, 1 down 14 more to go.

meet 'CHUNK'!

ta-da.  it was a lot of fun to paint... I can't wait to have him on the field.  Tried the hand at some freehand work on the BA mudflap.. eh.. it came out so-so.
